Classic B&W

As I was going through all my fabric boxes and pulling out what I would be using for this years show, I realized that I definitely stick to what I like!

So in order to start branching out of my creative comfort zone, I decided to use up what was left of my favorite fabrics and make one last round of cushions with them.

Next year, I need to make something different, perhaps use more of the green fabric I have or learn how to do different types of patch work! Maybe sketching my designs would be a good idea...!

Can't go wrong with Classic B&W

2014 Crafting Season

As usual, it's been a while since I've posted anything...I thought I would be more on top of this whole blogging thing, but alas, I'm not great at it!

I did want to let you all know however that I will be participating in two great local craft shows this year in November. I'm hoping to have some new merchandise to sell and hope to be expanding our line in the next few years to offer more custom crafty home decor goods!!!

Follow the links for more information and I hope to see you there:)

Spring Crafting

Well that's that! My first ever Spring Craft Show at Immaculata H.S came and went, and all I have to show for it is one sold pillow....the bicycle! All the hard work I put into making all those lovely pillows (at least I think they're lovely) and all the zippers I perfected (well not quite perfected, but got much better at sewing them in!) was FOR NOTHING!

Don't get me wrong, I'm always happy I do the show...it's nice to be there with my mom and to see the other vendors...I've gotten to recognize some of them and hope to keep in touch! But this is the first time that I didn't sell at least four pillows....to at least cover the cost of our tables:(

I'm trying to look at the bright side....which is, now I have lots of stock for my fall/winter shows!!! Yes, I know most of the items I made were "spring" themed, but a pretty pillow is a pretty pillow and it doesn't matter what time of year you buy it right?!?! Well that's what I think anyways!

Here's a little preview of what I made! (If you're interested, it's all available for sale:)

At my table...which I thought looked lovely!

The Dreaded Zipper...Part Deux!

...so I did it! I made a pillow, and it has the invisible zipper!!!! YAY ME!
My class at Fabrications Ottawa was fun! It was just myself and another girl, so we were able to ask the instructor as many questions as we wanted and not feel like we were annoying anyone;) I learned how to use a serger, and used a Bernina sewing machine, which I'm told is the Cadillac of sewing machines....it was so quiet and fast!!!!!!

Here I am holding my newly made pillow....can you tell i'm proud of myself?!?!?!

That was over a month ago....forward to now, where I'm preparing for my first ever spring craft show, and I wanted to show that I've progressed my pillow making skills by making them with zippers...well guess what??? I've forgotten everything I was taught! I've spent the last few weeks watching YouTube Videos, ready articles, driving my poor mother crazy trying to recreate the above mentioned moment of PUTTING A ZIPPER IN A PILLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay tuned for another post and more images of the zipper shenanigans...or better yet, come check out my show at Immaculata High school in Ottawa on April 27th from 10-3 pm.

The dreaded zipper...

Hello fellow crafter's,

Tonight I'm heading to Fabrications Ottawa to take my first ever sewing class!
I'm excited and also nervous...I've never taken a sewing class before, nor have I sewed on a different machine before. I'm still getting to know my Huqsvarna Viking machine, so far she's been good to me, but I've yet to really use most of the features!
http://new.husqvarnaviking.com/en-CA/Machines/H-CLASS-E20

The reason I'm doing this is because typically I make my pillows with overlapping backs...like so:

Tonight however I will be learning to put a zipper on a pillow! I've never used the zipper foot on my machine before...I'm not even sure if I'll want to put zippers on pillows, but I figured it's something to learn and might come in handy in the future!

What I'm most excited about however is getting to buy new fabric to make said pillow! I have my eye on some of Fabrications Japanese fabrics...so unique, so fun! You can see them here:

Fingers crossed that it goes well tonight, either way I'm happy to be out meeting other creative people, learning new things and getting to buy new fabric!
(i'll post a picture of the final product if all goes well;)
